DataStax Astra Developer Hub

Welcome to the DataStax Astra Developer Hub. You'll find comprehensive guides and documentation to help you start working with DataStax Astra as quickly as possible. Use the included APIs to create, modify, and terminate databases, and interact with the databases you create. Let's do it!

Connect with GCP VPC peering to your Astra database

By creating a virtual private cloud (VPC), you can connect your GCP resources and Astra databases. VPC peering allows you to communicate across the VPCs.

📘

Note

VPC peering is available on only Production Workload databases. For more about VPC peering on Astra databases hosted on GCP, see VPC Network Peering overview.

Prerequisites

  • Create a VPC in your GCP account.
  • Create your Astra databasedatabase - A group of distributed instances for storing data. Each paid Astra database has at least three instances.. See Creating your Astra database.

Procedure

The procedure is a two-step process using the DataStax Astra Console and the Google Cloud Console.

Astra Console

  1. From your database Summary, select Add Peering Connection.
  2. In Add Peering Connection, enter the GCP project name in the Project ID.
  3. Enter the VPC Network Name from the list of VPCs in the VPC dashboard of your GCP account. For example, default.
  4. Select Initiate.

Google Cloud Console

  1. Open your GCP project.
  2. In the left sidebar, navigate to VPC Network.
  3. Open VPC network peering.
  4. Select Create Connection and then Continue.
  5. On the Create peering connection dialog, enter:
    • A name for the connection you're creating
    • Your VPN network
You may select default from the list.
    • Under Peered VPC Network, enable In another project and enter:
      • Astra project ID: Found on your database page in Connection Details > Security. The Astra project ID is the Connection ID without the prefix to-. For example, if the connection id is to-astraabcdefg, your Astra project ID is astraabcdefg.
      • VPC network name: Found on your database page in Cluster Details. Add dse- to the beginning of your Cluster ID. For example, if the cluster ID is 4240ebe6-72e1-4ea1-ac25-cc728d9fa9ff, then the VPC network name is dse-4240ebe6-72e1-4ea1-ac25-cc728d9fa9ff.
  6. Select Initiate Peering.
